One of the unique features of Beijing is its numerous Hutongs which means small lanes. It is the characteristics of Beijing and tourists .

Hutong is very common in Beijing. However, with the development of the city, historic Hutongs are demolished. Skyscrapes rocket from Hutongs, which make those familiar street sights, gates towers, four-square courtyards disappearing out of our view. While you touring in Hutong, visitors will find that many Hutongs are in the name of people such as” Premier Wen Hutong” was named after a famous premier, Wen Tianxiang, in Nansong period. Others are named for well-known craftsmen or shops. There are also lanes with names like Jinyu and Shoupa. Generally speaking, when one of the winding Hutong makes a major turn, it takes on a new name.
